Saturday, November 10, 2001GREENSBORO, NC -- The East Tennessee State Buccaneers defeated the UNC Greensboro Spartans, 3-1 (30-26, 27-30, 32-30, 30-28) in Southern Conference Volleyball action Saturday afternoon from Greensboro, N.C. ETSU moved its record to 20-5 on the year, and 15-5 in the conference. The Spartans finish the regular season with six straight losses to end with a 2-29 record, which set a new school record for most losses in a season all-time. UNCG also finishes 2-18 in the SoCon. ETSU looked to cruise away with the first game, as it led 17-8, but UNCG refused to go quietly, closing with one at 22-21. But the Bucs held strong, and took the 30-26 win. The Spartans started out quickly in game two, taking a 15-7 edge. ETSU cut the lead to four at 17-13, and stayed close the rest of the game, and came within two at 27-25. But the Spartans would prevail 30-27, in the process taking their first game since winning three at The Citadel on October 27. In game three, the Bucs held a 24-18 lead, but once again UNCG rallied, tying the game at 28-28. But they couldn't take a lead, and ETSU squeaked out a 32-30 win. The Spartans again took a quick lead in game four at 8-3. ETSU would tie the score at 12-12, and neither team led by more than two points the rest of the game. With the score 29-28 in the Buc's favor, an ETSU kill gave them the 30-28 win and the match. Dawn Bright led the Spartans with 15 kills and 13 digs, while Kerry Stewart and Jamie Hedin both tallied 10 kills. Robyn Jameson posted 23 assists in her final game for the Spartans, and finishes her career at UNCG second on the all-time career assist chart with 3642. Karen Freeburg led ETSU with 17 kills and 16 digs, while Amber Ciskowski added 15 kills and 12 digs. Also finishing in double figures for kills was Lissa Allen (14 kills, 14 digs) and Kate Steidle (10 kills, 12 digs). Jessica Miller posted 57 asssists.
