Women's Soccer Falls to Tennessee Tech, 1-0

Cookeville, Tenn. - East Tennessee State falls in season-opener to Tennessee Tech, 0-1, Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Country Inn & Suites Invitational. Tennessee Tech Freshman Alicia Burt scored the game's only goal in the 71st minute of play in a hard rain, keeping the Golden Eagles unbeaten on their home field at 9-0 over two seasons. The Buccaneers (0-1) will face Northwestern State in the consolation match Sunday at 11 a.m. Burt took a header from Robyn Vince at the edge of the six-yard box and one-hopped it past diving ETSU goalkeeper Heather Sanden. Tech freshman Carly King played the entire match in goal, facing three shots and making one save. Tech outshot ETSU 36-3 in the match, with Cheryl Bjorgan leading the effort with nine shots. Vince had seven shots. Burt had entered the match less than a minute before scoring the game-winner, the first goal of her career.
