Friday, September 27, 2002CHARLESTON, S.C. - East Tennessee State's Nicole Ryan (Etiwanda, Calif.), a freshman outside hitter, led the Bucs with 21 kills and 34 total attacks in defeating The Citadel, 3-2, in Southern Conference volleyball action Friday night in McAlister Field House. The Citadel (3-8, 0-4 SoCon) jumped out to a two-games-to-none advantage against the Buccaneers, winning the first two games 32-30 and 30-22, respectively. But East Tennessee State head coach Deane Webb saw his team rally back with three straight wins, 30-24, 30-13, and 15-12, to complete the victory. The Bucs, who improve to 4-7 overall and an even 2-2 in Southern Conference play, received a strong effort from reserve setter Kristi Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.), who recorded 51 assists on the night. Unfortunately for the Lady Bucs, ETSU lost its starting setter, freshman Renee Vesey (Paw Paw, Mich.), early in the first game when she turned her ankle, taking her out of the action for the rest of the match. ETSU will complete part two of its Charleston trip tomorrow afternoon, when the Bucs take on College of Charleston beginning at 1:00 p.m.
