Thursday, October 30, 2003DAVIDSON, N.C. (October 30, 2003) - East Tennessee State freshman Emily Fulcher (New Bern, N.C.) scored with just ten seconds remaining in the game to lift the visiting Buccaneer women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the Davidson Wildcats Thursday night at Richardson Stadium in Davidson, N.C. ETSU improves to 12-4 overall and 7-3 in the Southern Conference while the loss drops Davidson to 6-11-2 overall and 3-5-2 in the SoCon. Davidson took a 1-0 lead 31 minutes into the contest when freshman Heidi Wilbrandt scored the first goal of her collegiate career on a header off sophomore Lauren Hungarland's corner kick. The assist gave Hungarland the first point of her collegiate career as well. The Buccaneers evened the score when freshman Lindsay Hoffman (Frederick, Md.) scored an unassisted goal just before halftime for her third of the season. The game would remain tied 1-1 until Fulcher's goal in the 89th minute. The Davidson defense held the potent ETSU offense in check for the majority of the contest. Buccaneer goalie Heather Sanden (Manassas, Va.) was equal to the task however, stopping six Davidson shots to keep her team in the game and provide the stage for Fulcher's heroics. ETSU won a corner kick with almost 30 seconds left in the match. A scramble followed in the box after the corner, and Buccaneer freshman Blair DeGraw (Greensboro, N.C.) found Fulcher open on the left side. Fulcher struck the ball hard through the Davidson defense to win the match and end Davidson's upset bid. The Buccaneers now prepare for their last regular season contest against Appalachian State this Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. in Boone, N.C.
