JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 19, 2004) - The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at East Tennessee State was named as a finalist for the Outstanding Philanthropic Organization/Corporation award by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Thursday at the MeadowView Convention Center in Kingsport.

Yesterday was extremely special for the announcement as it was National Philanthropy Day. ETSU Athletics earned the finalist status based on its community service outreach program along with other charitable efforts within Johnson City and the surrounding community.

"The ETSU Athletics is extremely proud to be named as a finalist for this award,"

commented Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator Barbie Breedlove. "This recognition is truly deserved by our coaches and student-athletes who are indeed winning the right way."

To qualify for this award, an organization or corporation must demonstrate outstanding commitment through financial support and through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals was established over 40 years ago and represents 26,000 members in 172 chapters throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education, and certification programs.
