Lady Bucs finish tied for fourth at rain-shortened Great Smokies Championship

(Oct. 19, 2004) - Despite waiting much of the day to see if severe, rainy weather would ease, the 24 teams competing at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate were unable to resume third and final round play Tuesday at the Waynesville Country Club.

Because of the rain, the East Tennessee State women's golf team will bring home a tie for fourth place, finishing 10 strokes back of team champion Western Carolina. The Lady Bucs were led by junior Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) and freshman Maria Ringdahl (Farjestaden, Sweden), who both finished tied for fifth at 1-over for the event.

As for the rest of the Lady Bucs, freshman Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) finished tied for 10th at 2-over, while senior Danielle O'Reilly (Whistler, British Columbia) and junior Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario) both tied for 77th.

This event wraps up a successful fall season for the Lady Bucs, who enjoyed three top 5 performances in four events during the fall - including a tournament championship at the Jacksonville State Lady Gamecock Classic. The Lady Bucs have 11 Top 5 performances in their last 15 events, dating back to last season.
