Wednesday, March 01, 2006

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 1, 2006) - The ETSU men's cross country and men's tennis teams have earned Public Recognition Awards, according to the most recent APR (academic progress rate) report, released by the NCAA on Wednesday.  The awards are given to teams that have achieved scores ranking in the top 10 percent of their respective sport.  All ETSU programs have reached scores high enough to avoid NCAA sanctions.

"We're proud of all our programs for continuing to show outstanding success academically," said ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dave Mullins.  "Our coaches and student-athletes are as committed to academics success as they are athletic achievement."

Other ETSU squads posting strong marks were men's basketball, which scored 951, compared to the national average of 927; women's basketball, which recorded a tally of 970, above the average mark of 958; and men's golf, which scored 970, besting the average score of 961.
