MACON, Ga. (March 7, 2006) - ETSU freshman golfer Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) received the first A-Sun Golfer of the Month award for the spring season on Tuesday.
Findlay fired what was at the time career-best 70s in back-to-back rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic, helping him to secure the first top-5 finish of his career. The freshman finished tied for fifth overall, the best showing by a Buccaneer. ETSU finished fifth in the extremely strong field that featured 14 ranked teams. For the month, Findlay finished with a 70.67 stroke average, as the Buccaneers climbed to No. 11 in the most current national rankings.
"Obviously, this is a big thing for me," Findlay said. "To start the season, it builds a lot of confidence to know I can compete at this level. It's an honor and a nice surprise to win."
Findlay's honor helps the Bucs continue keep the A-Sun monthly honor for themselves, as junior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) swept the awards during the fall season, winning in September, October and November. The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Golfer of the Month awards during the first full week of every month during the 2005-06 campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
