KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (October 15, 2006) - The ETSU men's tennis team wrapped up play today in the Volunteer State Challenge. The Bucs tied Middle Tennessee for second place with 15 singles wins apiece, while host school Tennessee took first with 18 wins. Vanderbilt and Memphis finished fourth and fifth respectively.
In the final match of the weekend, the Bucs took on in-state rival Tennessee. ETSU won two out of the six matches with Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) earning wins for the Bucs. Olivares defeated Chris Racz, 7-6, 6-2, while Isaza defeated John Thornton, 6-1, 6-2.
Senior Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) fell to No. 95 Bobby Cameron, 6-3, 6-2, as No. 116 Davey Sandgren defeated Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina), 6-2, 6-4. Junior Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) fell to Derek Stephens after a hard-fought match, 0-6, 7-6, 6-4 and Predrag Burmazovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro) fell to Adam Hubble, 6-2, 6-3.
