BLACKSBURG, Va. (October 27, 2006) - The ETSU women's soccer team closed out its regular season Friday night as they fell to the Virginia Tech Hokies, 3-0 at Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium. The Bucs fall to 5-10-3 as the Hokies improve to 6-8-4.

In the first period, Virginia Tech scored in the first five minutes of the match as Julian Johnson drew a foul inside the box for a penalty kick. Erin Moore converted to give Virginia Tech a 1-0 lead. The Hokies scored again three minutes later as Ashley Kinser found the back of the net.

The Bucs defense then tightened its hold making seven saves and was able to go into half time trailing 2-0.

In the second, ETSU regained their composure, but the Hokies scored one more time as Erin Moore found the back of the net for her second goal of the night.

"I think we came out a little too nervous playing an ACC school and we put ourselves in a bad situation by having them score twice so early on," said head coach Heather Henson. "Once we realized we could compete with them we started winning some of the balls and were able to relax."

Rachel Layer (Bel Air, Md.), Hannah Johnson (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), and Rebecca Murray (Franklin, Tenn.) each had one shot for the Bucs and sophomore Erin Bilyeu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) recorded nine save on the night.

ETSU will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. to participate in the Atlantic Sun conference tournament where they will face the fifth seeded Jacksonville Dolphins on November 2. The Bucs who earned the four seed defeated Jacksonville, 4-1 on September 30. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
