Saturday, February 02, 2008

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 2, 2008) - As the price of gas continues to increase this winter, the Buccaneer Athletic Scholarship Association (BASA) has decided to give the public an opportunity to win $5,000 worth of Shell gasoline gift cards as part of its annual auction event at the Millennium Center.

BASA members around the region are currently selling raffle tickets for $50 each, with ticket buyers being automatically entered into the drawing to win the $5,000 worth of gas. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the night of the auction. Proceeds from the event, which will be held Feb. 29th at 7 p.m., will benefit over 200 Buccaneer student-athletes who are on scholarship at ETSU.

"This event has always been successful," said Jo Anne Paty, Associate Athletic Director and Executive Director of BASA. "We always have a great crowd and hope to have an even larger crowd this year to raise money for scholarships."

The theme for this year's event will be "See You in the Funny Papers," with participants encouraged to dress as their favorite comic book character.

Additional items up for purchase this year as part of the live and silent auction include vacations, condo rentals, jewelry, trips with the ETSU basketball team, and opportunities to be a Coach for the Day with several ETSU programs.

Anyone interested in attending the auction or purchasing a ticket can call BASA at 423-439-8398.
