LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Sept. 13, 2009) - In a tournament that includes an 18-team field comprised exclusively of conference championship teams from the 2008 season, the ETSU women's golf team held its own, finishing sixth during first round play in the Golfweek Conference Challenge Sunday at the Primm Valley Resort's Desert Course.
The Buccaneers posted a team score of 14-over-par 302 to end the day two strokes back of fifth place California and seven strokes back of first place Oklahoma State.
ETSU was powered by strong play from sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) and senior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia). Muehl finished in fourth place after posting an even par 72, while Jansone fired a 2-over 74 to end the day tied for 11th. Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall leads individually after carding a 4-under-par 68.
Other Buccaneers results included a tie for 34th by senior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) and a tie for 48th by senior Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport).
Play in the Golfweek Conference Challenge will continue with second round action on Monday, followed by third and final round play on Tuesday. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com, while ETSUBucs.com will provide a complete wrap up following each day's action.
