Junior forward averages double-double to lead Bucs
MACON, Ga. (Nov. 30, 2009) - Thanks to a scoring and rebounding outburst that helped lead the ETSU men's basketball team to three wins last week, junior forward Tommy Hubbard (Boston) was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. It is Hubbard's first POTW honor.
Hubbard powered the Bucs to a perfect 3-0 record last week including a victory against Southeastern Conference foe Arkansas. The business major posted 32 points and 10 boards against the Razorbacks, and followed that performance with a 25-point, 13-rebound showing in the Bucs' A-Sun opening win against UNF. The 32-point, 10-rebound effort against Arkansas marked the first time since 2007 than an A-Sun player had reached the 30 and 10 plateaus in a single game against a non-conference opponent.
The native of Boston has posted five double-doubles in the Bucs' last six games and nearly posted six consecutive with a nine-point, nine-rebound showing in victory in Johnson City, Tenn. against the College of Charleston. In three contests, Hubbard, who averaged only 4.0 points per game last year, averaged 23.3 ppg, and 11.3 rpg for the week.
Hubbard ranked second in the Atlantic Sun in scoring and rebounding over the past week - first in both categories among players playing more than one game. He also led the conference in offensive rebounding in last week's action pulling down 16 offensive boards for the Bucs. Through seven contests, Hubbard owns an 18.3 scoring average - the 14.3 per-game increase leads the conference.
