OXFORD, Miss. (April 3, 2010) - Sophomore Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) and senior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) posted scores of 1-under-par 71 to lead the ETSU women's golf team during second round play Saturday in the Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
With those efforts, the Buccaneers remain in second place, eight strokes back of 27th-ranked Tulane heading into Sunday's third and final round. The Bucs remain in front of teams such as Ole Miss, No. 18 Texas A&M, Augusta State, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
Individually, Vizcarrondo is sixth on the leaderboard and currently the top ETSU performer at this point of the tournament. She trails leader Julia Potter of Missouri by seven strokes.
"Mayte and Laura really stepped up today," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "We still need to stay focused and we have a chance to catch Tulane if we can get four quality scores tomorrow. The third round should be exciting for us."
Along with Vizcarrondo, senior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) is tied for 13th, while Jansone and sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) are tied for 26th and 29th, respectively.
