PINEHURST, N.C. (March 22, 2010) - The ETSU women's golf team improved on its first round effort by nine strokes during Monday's second round in the Pinehurst Challenge, carding a team score of 295 to finish tied for sixth on the team leaderboard at Pinehurst No. 6.
The Buccaneers stand at 599 (304-295) for the tournament, 22 strokes back of team leader Florida State. On the individual leaderboard, the Bucs' Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) continued her strong play, posting back-to-back rounds of 72 to finish tied for fourth. The senior is just five strokes back of leader Christine Shimel from Maryland.
"The girls played hard today and were able to turn it around to shoot 295 in the second round," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "I was proud of their resilience today. We need to continue to bring this positive energy each round to continue our success this year."
Along with O'Sullivan's efforts, sophomore Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) is currently tied for 15th at 149 (74-75), while fellow sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) is tied for 31st at 152 (77-75).
