KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 8, 2010) - Nic Chernikow (Seymour, Tenn.) entered the final day of the decathlon in tenth, but when it was all said and done, the senior Buccaneer multis athlete made up some ground to finish seventh in the event at the 44th annual Sea Relays inside LaPorte Stadium on Thursday evening.
Chernikow, who was competing in his first decathlon of the season, finished with 6055 points. The Seymour, Tenn. native collected 3277 points on day one and Chernikow totaled 2833 points in the track events.
Chris Helwick of Team Wick-Set won the decathlon with 7779 points, while Georgia's Cory Holman was the top collegiate athlete in the 15-man field (7308 points).
The Bucs return to action at the Sea Relays on Friday and Saturday.
