JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 27, 2010) - The ETSU men's soccer team defeated Tusculum 3-2 in its final exhibition match of the pre-season Friday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
The Bucs outshot the Pioneers 19-3 in the match, and won the battle in corners 6-2.
The two teams played a scoreless first half as the Buccaneers dominated the period keeping Tusculum from taking a shot.
In the second half, ETSU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute as a Nate Hodges' (Baileytown, Miss.) throw-in gave David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) a breakaway goal.
Tusculum evened the contest in the 63rd minute when Horton McKinney headed the cross from Andres Jarquin into the back of the net.
The Buccaneers went back in front 2-1 in the 75th minute as Guilherme Reis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) knocked the rebound from a Geno shot into the back of the net.
In the 85th minute, Hodges connected with sophomore Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas) for a header goal to increase the ETSU advantage to 3-1.
The Pioneers cut the Buccaneer lead to 3-2 in 88th minute as Mason Fox headed a loose ball past an ETSU defender into the goal, but the Bucs would not allow another shot on the afternoon to make the final 3-2.
