JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 17, 2010) - The ETSU baseball program and head coach Tony Skole announced its 2011 schedule on Friday. The Bucs' 56-game schedule includes 30 homes games and matchups against ACC powers Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and NC State.
"I am excited about the opportunity the 2011 schedule will give our players," Skole said. "We will be challenged by our non-conference schedule, and of course the Atlantic Sun presents us with ten grueling weekends of A-Sun play. We've known this since we joined the conference, but there is not a week where you have a weekend off."
ETSU opens its schedule at home on Feb. 18 as the Marist Red Foxes come to Johnson City, Tenn. for a three-game series. The Buccaneers also host Rider (Feb.25-27), Furman (March 8), Radford (March 22), Appalachian State (April 6), Virginia Tech (April 19), Manhattan (April 30-May 1) and UNC Asheville (May 3) in non-conference action.
Trips to Georgia Tech (May 17) and N.C. State (May 6-8) highlight the Buccaneers non-conference road slate.
"Our goal is to build on the momentum of last year's success," Skole added. "I really like our team, and we are envisioning the community and student support getting stronger and stronger each year. Our fans did a tremendous job supporting us last season, and we look for more excitement at the ballpark in 2011. This schedule will provide an opportunity for our fans to experience some great college baseball in Johnson City."
The Bucs open Atlantic Sun Conference play on March 4 as they head to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate in a three-game slate. ETSU then heads to North Florida from March 11-13 before heading home for the conference home opener against Jacksonville on March 18. The defending A-Sun regular season champion Florida Gulf Coast Eagles come to town April 1-3, while the Bucs close out the A-Sun home schedule with Lipscomb (April 8-10), Kennesaw State (21-23) and Campbell (May 13-14).
A three-game series in Macon, Ga. against the defending A-Sun Tournament champion Mercer Bears on May 19-21 highlights the ETSU conference road schedule. The Bucs also head to Stetson (March 25-27) and Belmont (April 15-17) in conference action.
