JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 8, 2011) - The awards continue to pile up for ETSU senior Mike Smith (Vandalia, Mo.), as the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced Wednesday that the 6-foot-6 guard has been named to the NABC Division I All-District team.
Smith, who was voted the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year earlier this month, was selected by the district's coaches to the NABC District 3 first team. He is joined on the first team by Lipscomb's Adnan Hodzic, Charleston Southern's Jamarco Warren, and the Coastal Carolina duo of Desmond Holloway and Chad Gray.
Having led the Bucs in scoring with 17.3 points per game, and finishing second on the team with 6.9 rebounds a contest, Smith used the 2010-11 season to continue to build on a resume that has been consistently impressive throughout his five years at ETSU. In all, Smith currently stands at 1,709 points for his career, and could add to that number if the Bucs return to postseason play this season.
Smith was an A-Sun Player of the Week four times this past season, and a first-team All A-Sun pick. He posted 13 games of 20 or more points during the season, and finished with a total of 552 on the year. Smith led the Bucs to a 22-11 season, and their fourth 20-win season in his time at the school.
