JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Mar. 12, 2011) - The ETSU women's tennis team closed out its weekend homestand with an impressive 7-0 sweep over Lipscomb, Saturday afternoon at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center.
"The last couple of days were exactly what we needed in order to build our confidence," said ETSU Assistant Coach Travis Sandlant.
With the victory, the Bucs move to an 6-5 on the year and 3-1 in A-Sun play, while Lipscomb falls to 2-8 and 1-2 in the A-Sun. The Bucs have now won four matches in a row, their longest winning streak of the season.
The Bucs got out to a quick 1-0 victory after taking each of the three doubles matches on the day.
ETSU remained in control throughout singles play as well by taking each of the six matches in straight sets. Junior Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) earned a quick 6-2, 6-0 victory over Elizabeth Keevil at the No. 1 position. Senior Kelly Holtzhausen (Johannesburg, South Africa) rolled past Kara Jackson at the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-1. Then, Marine Wieliczko (Rouen, France) won her second straight match after knocking off Alyssa Bellini, 6-2, 6-4.
Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela), Diana Navrostska (Lviv, Ukraine), and Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) were also victorious for the Bucs on the afternoon. Kedzo and Voinea have both won five matches in a row in singles play, while Navrostska has won four straight.
"We are looking forward to a tough ACC team in Virginia Tech," added Sandlant. "We are hoping to play hard and be rewarded on the scoreboard."
The Bucs close out the weekend tomorrow afternoon at Virginia Tech. The match is set for 1 p.m.
