ORANGE PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2012) – ETSU sophomore Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and freshman Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) carded strong scores and finished tied for seventh place on the individual leaderboard following first round play Friday in the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational at Eagle Landing Golf Club.
Evans and Wahl finished at 1-over 73 and are currently six strokes back of Campbell’s Kaylin Yost, who is the event’s leader after posting an impressive round of 5-under-par 67 in the first round. Yost leads South Florida’s Christina Miller and Shena Young by two strokes heading into Saturday’s second round.
The Buccaneers’ duo helped the team to a current tie for ninth place in the 18-team field at 16-over 304. South Florida currently leads the event at 1-under 287, seven strokes better than both Campbell and East Carolina at 294.
“Sian and Gabriella continue to give us consistency and solid play,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “But the big numbers got us again today. Right now we still are not taking the confidence that we should to the golf course. There are a lot of good teams here and we need to put ourselves back in the fight with them where we belong.”
Consistent play was an issue for the Bucs on Friday, as no other ETSU player finished higher than a tie for 51st on the individual leaderboard.
Second round play is scheduled for Saturday, followed by third and final round action on Sunday. ETSU fans can watch live scoring of the event at golfstat.com, or visit ETSUBucs.com for a complete wrap up following each day’s play.
