MACON, Ga. (March 21, 2012) -- After setting another school record in his freshman season at ETSU, K'Vonte Scott (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named Atlantic Sun Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
At the 49er Classic last week in Charlotte, N.C., Scott set ETSU's new mark in the decathlon, breaking the previous school record by more than 500 points. The Virginia Beach native -- who was also named A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week during the indoor season after breaking ETSU's heptathlon record -- scored 6,618 points and set seven personal bests in the process.
The freshman's seven personal records came in the 100m (11.34), 1500m (4:48.31), 110m hurdles (15.51), high jump (2.01m), shot put (12.23m), discus throw (31.95m) and javelin throw (39.41m). Scott also posted a distance of 6.72m in the long jump, a time of 50.61 in the 400m and a height of 3.60m in the pole vault.
With his record-breaking decathlon mark, Scott ranks No. 1 in the A-Sun and No. 5 in the NCAA. Scott also ranks among the top five in the conference in the long jump, high jump and 110m hurdles.
