COLUMBUS, Ohio (May 9, 2012) – ETSU freshman golfer Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) will begin her quest for a national championship on Thursday, as play begins in the NCAA Central Regional.
Wahl, who earned an at-large berth thanks in part to her back-to-back individual victories in the final two tournaments of the spring, will join the nation’s top teams and individual participants at the regional, which is scheduled for May 10-12 at the Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course.
After learning of her invitation to participate in the regional, Wahl was ecstatic about having a chance to continue what has been a remarkable first season at ETSU.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity to continue my college season for a few weeks,” said Wahl, who captured both the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate and the Atlantic Sun Conference championships to end the spring season. “Going to nationals and having the opportunity to represent ETSU is an honor. I’m really excited.”
The A-Sun freshman of the year and a first-team all league pick, Wahl ended the 2011-12 season with Bucs’ lowest stroke average at 74.2.
Her season also included record-breaking performances, such as a school mark for three-round score with a 212 at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate. Her 5-under-par 67 in the first round of A-Sun Championships also matched that event’s best single-round score ever.
Fans will be able to keep up-to-date with Wahl’s efforts at the NCAA regional by visiting Golfstat.com to access live scoring. In addition, ETSUBucs.com will have a full update following each round.
