MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (March 11, 2013) – It was an up and down day for Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland), but the Buccaneer freshman still led the ETSU men’s golf team after the first two rounds of the General Hackler Championship on Monday from the TPC Myrtle Beach.
Meronk – who opened the day with a 2-under-par 70 – followed things up with a 7-over 79 in the second round, and went from being tied for second into a three-way tie for 13th with a two-round total of 5-over 149. After registering six birdies in the first round, Meronk only totaled one in round two and finished the last two holes at 5-over.
Meanwhile, No. 17 Arkansas holds the lead on both the team and individual leaderboards.
In team scoring, the Razorbacks carry a two-shot lead over No. 23 Kent State into the final round. The Razorbacks finished the day at 6-over-par 582. Like his team, Thomas Sorensen holds a two-shot advantage over Tennessee’s Oliver Goss, as the Arkansas golfer shot a 3-under 141.
As a team, the Bucs enter Tuesday’s final round in fifth after carding a two-round total of 607 (299-308) on Monday.
The other ETSU notables were sophomore Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) and freshman Chris Hickman (Centreville, Md.). The Buccaneer duo sit in a six-way tie for 20th after generating a score of 7-over 151.
The third and final round gets underway at 7:40 on Tuesday morning. ETSU will be paired with No. 47 Coastal Carolina and Lamar.
