OXFORD, Miss. (April 5, 2014) – Besting teams such as No. 27 Kentucky, No. 44 Notre Dame, Tennessee and Ole Miss, the No. 43-ranked ETSU women’s golf team wrapped up play in the Rebel Intercollegiate with a fifth-place finish Saturday at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Playing 36 holes in an attempt to avoid inclement weather on Sunday, the Buccaneers were led by junior Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany), who finished with a team-best showing of ninth place by carding rounds of 71 and 76 to post an overall score of 2-over-par 218. As a team, the Bucs ended the event at 16-over-par 880, nine strokes back of team champion and No. 32-ranked GRU Augusta.
Individually, Wahl ended the event eight strokes off the pace of GRU Augusta’s Jessica Haigwood, who captured the top spot by two strokes over Southern Mississippi’s Brandi Rodriguez.
Other ETSU results included a tie for 16th by senior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and a tie for 46th by fellow senior Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain).
The Rebel Intercollegiate was the final regular season tournament for the Bucs, who will now prepare to defend their Atlantic Sun Conference title at the league championship event beginning April 14 in Jekyll Island, S.C.
