Bucs lose first home game in nearly a year
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2013) – The ETSU men's soccer team suffered its first defeat in nearly a year, falling at home to regionally-ranked Furman, 5-0. Along with ending ETSU's home unbeaten streak of six matches, the loss snapped the Bucs' shutout streak of more than 440 minutes.
The Buccaneers (2-2-2) trailed by just two goals to start the second half, but Furman’s offense was too much for ETSU to contain. The Paladins (5-1-0) added three second-half goals to hand ETSU its first loss at Summers-Taylor Stadium since Sept. 30, 2012.
Entering the weekend, ETSU ranked second in the nation for goals against average, boasting a dazzling mark of 0.184; however the Bucs were unable to find a rhythm, allowing the second-most goals in program history and most since Oct. 10, 2010 when the team fell, 5-0, to Florida Gulf Coast.
Furman, the fifth-ranked team in the NSCAA South Region, extended its win streak to four matches. Earlier this season, the Paladins knocked off No. 22 Xavier and narrowly lost to No. 8 Akron, 1-0.
ETSU will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 26 when it hosts Appalachian State at 7pm.
