Men's Golf To Open 2000 Spring Schedule At Puerto Rico Classic

Johnson City, Tenn. - The men's golf team will open its 2000 Spring campaign in the three-day Puerto Rico Classic from Feb. 27-29. The tournament will be played on the 6,945 yard, par 72 Rio Mar Country Club course in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.
The tournament will showcase many of the nation's elite men's golf teams. This year, 11 of the 15 teams in the tournament are currently ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings as of Feb. 14, while 13 individuals ranked in the top-30 will compete in the event. Past participants include 1994 NCAA Champion Justin Leonard, 1997 U.S. Amateur Champion Matt Kuchar, 1999 NCAA Champion Luke Donald as well as PGA Tour Stars David Duval and Stewart Cink.
ETSU will be led by junior Chris Wisler, the #21 ranked player in collegiate golf. Wisler completed the fall season with a scoring average of 72.88. He finished third in the Ridges Intercollegiate Tournament and ninth at the Iron Duke Golf Classic. Wisler, an All-American last year, competed in the prestigious Savane College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas this past November.
The participating teams include: #2 Clemson, #31 Colorado, #13 Duke, #48 East Tennessee State, #74 Florida State, #1 Georgia Tech, #11 Kent, #42 Minnesota, #33 North Carolina, #4 Northwestern, #80 Purdue, #19 Virginia, #37 Wake Forest and #5 Georgia.
Other ranked players in addition to Wisler include: #2 Luke Donald (Northwestern), #4 Bryce Molder (Georgia Tech), #6 Lucas Glover (Clemson), #7 Matt Kuchar (Georgia Tech), #9 Ben Curtis (Kent), #13 Nick Cassini (Georgia), #17 Max Harris (North Carolina), #18 Jess Dailey (Northwestern), #22 James McLean (Minnesota), #23 Jonathan Byrd (Clemson), #24 Erik Compton (Georgia) and #26 John Engler (Clemson).
