Men's Tennis Earns Southern Conference Post-Season Awards

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- East Tennessee State junior Gustavo Gomez earned Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year honors it was announced today. Joining Gomez as All-Southern Conference honorees were junior Juan Yannuzzi and freshman Marcos Pavlovich.

A three-time All-SoCon selection, Gomez is the first ETSU player to earn the distinction since Antonio Robles in 1995. He is 26-11 so far this season and went 7-1 in Conference action. He is currently tied with John Shulman for second place on ETSU's Singles Win List with 98 career victories.

Yannuzzi is 23-11 this season, playing most of the time at No. 4. He went 10-0 in SoCon action and has not lost a Conference match in his three years at ETSU (29-0).

The Bucs' third honoree, Pavlovich ranks third on ETSU's Single-Season Win List with 32 victories -- the most prolific season of a freshman in program history. He went 9-1 in Southern Conference matches and won 16 matches at No. 2 singles.

The 2000 Southern Conference regular-season champion, ETSU is 20-6 overall and has won eight consecutive matches. The Bucs advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament with a 4-0 win over College of Charleston this morning. They return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Chattanooga.
