Men's Tennis Earns Highest Regional Ranking In History

Wednesday, November 24, 1999

Johnson City, Tenn. - The men's tennis program earned an Intercollegiate Tennis Association final fall ranking of sixth in Region II. It is the Bucs' highest ranking in team history.

The ranking is based on the team's results in individual tournaments during the fall season.

"This is a great compliment to our players for their fall play," head coach Dave Mullins said. "We had outstanding results from several players and consistent results from everyone on the team."

ETSU improved their Region II ranking six spots from a #12 ranking after the 1999 spring season.

"To move up six spots and ahead of several ACC teams shows that our team earned a lot of respect this fall," Mullins said. "Now we've got to keep getting better and prepare for a tough spring schedule."

Regional singles and doubles rankings will be released next week and the national rankings will be released on December 7.

"We should have several individuals ranked regionally and nationally," Mulllins said. "We could possibly move into the top 50 as a team, which would be a big jump from our #70 ranking at the end of last spring."
