Davidson, N.C. -- Senior Matt Baber scattered 12 hits and sophomore Jeremy Terry hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give East Tennessee State (9-18, 6-9) the lead for good in a 6-2 victory over host Davidson (19-16, 11-10).

Baber (5-5) pitched his second complete game in five days to earn the victory for the Bucs. All 12 hits were singles, and only one of the two runs were earned. He walked just one batter and struck out two. Twice his defense turned double plays with the bases loaded to end innings.

Davidson scored both of its runs in the third inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Sophomore Jack Purcell led off the inning with the only walk of the day. The centerfielder Nathan Copeland then misjudge junior Ryan Stroker's line drive for a three-base error, scoring Purcell. Stroker then came home on a ground ball off the bat of Tim Frend.

Meanwhile, freshman pitcher Derrik Wolpert (1-2) cruised through the first four innings against ETSU, allowing just two hits. The Bucs reached him for three in the fifth, however. One-out singles by Raymond McBride and Chuck Dewald put runners on the corners. Matt Nunley then hit a little tapper in front of the plate, and Wolpert's only play was to first, scoring a run. Terry followed with a home run, his first, on a 3-1 fastball to give the Bucs the lead for good.

In the seventh, ETSU got an insurance run off of reliever Mark Wells. Dewald singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Nunley drove him home with a solid single to left.

The Bucs got two unearned runs in the eighth for a comfortable four-run lead. Dewald drove in the final run of the game by hitting into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded.

Ed Sparks had three hits, including a double, for East Tennessee State to lead the 10-hit attack. Both Nunley and Terry drove in two runs.

ETSU returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Wake Forest for a 6:00 game at Cardinal Park.
