The athletic department announced today that Joi Anderson (Montgomery, Ala.) and Lauren Trantham (Asheville, N.C.) have signed National Letters of Intent to join head coach Karen Kemp's Lady Buc women's basketball program.
Anderson, a 6'0" forward, was a four time All-State honoree. Playing for head coach Jill Clark, she became the All-Time leading scorer (2,000+ points) and rebounder at the Montgomery Academy. She led her team to the State Championship in 1998 and 1999 and averaged 18.5 points and 11 rebounds per game during her high school career.
A three-time Metro Player-of-the-Year, Anderson was also honored as the Capital City Conference Player-of-the-Year during her senior season. She also earned USA Today's Top Player to Watch in Alabama. Anderson was selected to play on the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star team in 2000.
Trantham, a 6'0" forward, earned USA Today Honorable Mention All-America honors during the 2000 season. She earned All-Mountain Athletic Conference honors all four years at A.C. Reynolds High School while playing for head coach Jim Lankford.
Trantham led her team to the State Championship in 2000 and earned State Championship Most Valuable Player honors. She scored 1,224 points (11.4 points/game) and grabbed 874 rebounds (8.2 rebounds/game) during her high school career.
"Anderson and Trantham will increase both our athleticism and our desire to win," Kemp said. " We are very excited to have them joining the Lady Buc program."
Anderson and Trantham join Racquel Ellis (Mason, Ohio) and Angela Prosperi (Lebanon, Ohio) as signees for the 2000-01 season.
