Tuesday, February 29, 2000

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - ETSU women's basketball seniors Erica Babb (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Angie Fickes (Bluff City, Tenn.) earned All-Southern Conference Team honors as voted by the league's coaches.

Babb, a 6-2 center, ranks second in the Southern Conference in rebounding (8.3/game) and fifth in scoring (14.7/game). A two-time Southern Conference Player-of-the-Week, Babb has notched seven double-doubles and has netted double figures in 21 of ETSU's 25 games. Babb has led the team in scoring 14 times so far this season.

Fickes, a 5-4 point guard, leads the Southern Conference in assist/turnover ratio (1.79) and ranks second in steals (2.76/game) and fifth in assists (4.16/game). Fickes averages 9.9 points per game and has scored in double figures 14 times, including each of the last five games. She recorded her first career double-double (23 points, 10 rebounds) at Appalachian State on Feb. 14. A three-time All-Southern Conference honoree, Fickes ranks second on ETSU's All-Time assist list with 419 career assists. She also became the 12th player in ETSU women's basketball history to score over 1,000 points.

"I am very proud of the way Erica and Angie led our team this season," head coach Karen Kemp said. "Without their consistent contributions we would not have been as successful this year. They both deserve this honor for their outstanding play throughout the season."

Both Babb and Fickes have been instrumental in ETSU's current five-game win streak. The Lady Bucs are 14-11 overall and are the #3 seed in the Southern Conference Tournament that will be played in Greenville, S.C. from March 2-5. ETSU faces Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3
