Gold Defeats Blue, 10-0, In ETSU Football Spring Game
Saturday, April 21, 2001 Johnson City, Tenn. -- Freshman quarterback Dashannon Gamble connected with junior Mike Rader for a 33-yard touchdown pass to lead the Gold squad to a 10-0 win against the Blue squad in East Tennessee States annual spring game.The Gold squad, which featured the Bucs No. 1 defense and No. 2 offense, was led by Gambles arm and legs. He went 3-5 for 67 yards through the air, while gaining 79 yards on the ground, including a 47-yard scamper that set up the Gold deep in Blue territory with four minutes to play in the first quarter. On first and goal, Blues Montreal Harkley made a leaping interception in the endzone to keep the game scoreless. Gamble and the Gold would not be denied and scored the games lone touchdown at 6:05 of the second quarter. Gamble lofted his pass deep down the right sideline where Rader made a diving catch. Wes Sands added the extra point to give Gold a 7-0 halftime lead. In the second half, the Gold team added a 26-yard field goal >from Sands to complete the scoring. The Blue squad, which featured ETSUs No. 1 offense and No. 2 defense, excited the crowd with a 32-yard endzone connection from Matt Wilhjelm to Charvin Clark as the final buzzer sounded. Unfortunately for Blue, Wilhjelm was past the line of scrimmage when he threw the bomb. The game completes ETSU football's spring season.
