Saturday, September 23, 2000

Cullowhee, NC (AP) - Donnie Bryant rushed for 120 yards as Western Carolina scored 24 consecutive points on the way to a 39-27 victory tonight over East Tennessee State on Sept. 23.

The Catamounts trailed 12-to-seven in the second quarter before taking the lead for good on a five-yard run by quarterback David Rivers.

The Catamounts extended the lead to 30-12 early in the third quarter, but East Tennessee scored two straight T-Ds to get within three at 30-27 with nine minutes to go in the game.

Another Western field goal and a 30-yard scoring pass from Catamount backup quarterback Justin Cella to Michael Banks ended East Tennessee's hopes.

ETSU is now 2-2 overall, 1-1 in Southern Conference play.
