ETSU Opens Season With 37-20 Win Over Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Tim Turner had three catches for touchdowns and East Tennessee State scored 23 unanswered points in the second quarter Sept. 2 to beat Liberty 37-20.

Turner averaged almost 50 yards in each of his three catches from Todd Wells, who went 7-for-18 for 283 yards. The Bucs (1-0) added 160 yards on the ground, including an 82-yard touchdown run by Terrance Sims in the second quarter.

The Flames (0-1) came back with 13 points late in the game on two field goals and a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Biff Parson to Peter Foy, but the Flames couldn't overcome the Bucs' early lead.
