Johnson City, Tenn. -- Led by 2001 NCAA Division I First Team All-American Chris Wisler's 16th-place finish, the East Tennessee State men's golf team finished ninth at the 2001 NCAA Championship played at the Duke University Golf Course in Durham, N.C. The Bucs were 15-over after carding a four-round 1167 (293-289-292-293). This year marked the Bucs' fourth top-10 finish in history, and their first since placing third at the 1996 NCAA Championships in Ooltewah, Tenn. Their other top-10 finishes were tied for seventh in 1976 and sixth in 1975. Wisler fired a final-round 73 and finished the tournament at 1-under par (71-69-74-73--287). The three-time All-American captured the most electrifying shot of the week when he eagled the par-5 11th hole from approximately 150 yards. Senior Patrick Beste enjoyed the Bucs' best final round. He fired a 71 to finish the tournament tied for 46th (75-75-74-71--295). An All-Southern Conference honoree, Beste ranked third among all the players in par-5 scoring. He finished the tournament 9-under par on par 5s, averaging 4.44 strokes per hole. Sophomore James Johnson shot a fourth-round 73 and finished 29th after firing a 290 (73-72-72-73). Sophomore Adam Riddering (76-74-72-76--298) tied for 55th while classmate Thomas Lee (74-74-77-76--301) tied for 66th. For complete scoring information, please visit www.live.golfstat.com.
