Sunday, April 15, 2001

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State men’s golf team shot a final-round 289 to finish sixth in The Intercollegiate from Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Buccaneers (288-292-289=869) finished 13 strokes behind the champions, the Duke Blue Devils.

Senior Chris Wisler made a hard charge toward the lead in his final two rounds, with a 70 and a 68. His 68 was the second-best final round score. Wisler finished in a tie for fourth at 4-under par (74-70-68=212), three shots back of individual medalist Kevin Steelman of Duke. The fourth place finish is Wisler’s third consecutive top-10 finish, and the 18th of his ETSU career.

Sophomore Thomas Lee, who led the Buccaneers through two rounds, shot a final-round 75 to finish in a tie for 11th at 1-under par (67-73-75=215). Lee’s 11th place finish is his second-highest of the 2000-01 season, surpassed only by a tie for fourth at the Birkdale Collegiate Classic on Mar. 5-6.

Sophomore Adam Riddering had another solid day on the links, shooting a final-round 74 to finish in a tie for 28th at 4-over par (71-75-74=220). Sophomore James Johnson finished in a tie for 38th at 7-over par (76-75-72=223) after shooting a final day 72. Senior Pat Beste was the final ETSU finisher, shooting a third-round 77 to tie for 49th at 11-over par (76-74-77=227).

The Buccaneers return to action on April 20-22 as they look to win their fourth consecutive Southern Conference Championship from Chattanooga, Tenn.
