East Tennessee State Womens Tennis Falls to UNC Greensboro in First Round of Southern Conference Championships
Friday, April 20, 2001 Johnson City, Tenn. - The East Tennessee State womens tennis team was defeated by UNC Greensboro, 4-0, in the first round of the Southern Conference Womens Tennis Championships from Charleston, S.C. The No. 3 seeded Spartans won all five matches from the No. 6 seeded Buccaneers, while the remaining four matches were not completed. UNCG won the doubles point as they took matches at No. 2 and 3. Carlin Kannan and Amanda Eutzler of UNCG defeated Mami Inoue and Cara Prupas at No. 2, 8-3. Christine Weber and Lindsey Peel of UNCG were victorious at No. 3 doubles, defeating Jessica Irey and Aimee Villavicencio, 8-0. ETSUs Paty Vega and Tatiana Arrarian led Kristin Adamson and Ashley Rimel at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, but the match was not completed. The Spartans won singles matches at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles. UNCGs Kannan defeated Prupas, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Natalie Cherry of UNC Greensboro defeated Arrarian at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2. The Bucs Susan Torbett fell to Adamson, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. The singles matches involving Buccaneers Vega, Inoue and Irey were not completed. The loss closes the ETSUs 2000-01 campaign at 7-11 overall, 4-5 in conference play. UNC Greensboro will play No. 2 College of Charleston at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Citadel.
