Wednesday, December 06, 2000
Lady Buc senior guard Chris Forman tied an ETSU record with eight three-pointers as she led the Lady Bucs to an 80-69 win over the Davidson Wildcats Wednesday night from Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C.
East Tennessee State (1-5, 1-0) was led by Forman who scored a career-high 32 points on 12-21 shooting and 8-12 from long distance. Davidson (4-3, 0-2) got 25 points from guard Janna Magette in the loss.
The Lady Bucs got out to an early 14-7 lead by controlling the offensive boards and taking advantage of open jump shots. A three-pointer by Forman with 6:26 left on the clock pushed ETSU up by a first-half best 12 points, 27-15.
Davidson made a mini-run as the first half came to a close as Kim Taylor and Magette scored 5 points in the final 17 seconds of the half to make the score 35-32 at the break. Magette led all scorers with 15 points in the first 20 minutes of action.
The second half proved to be the Chris Forman show. She led the Lady Bucs at the break with 10 points, but had just begun her riveting performance.
The Lady Bucs rattled off a 9-2 run to begin the second half as the ETSU lead hovered around double-digits for most of the half. Every time Davidson would threaten, Forman would hit a big bucket.
With Davidson creeping back into the game at 65-57 with 5:47 remaining in the game, Forman nailed two huge treys to widen the advantage to 71-57. Forman scored 14 straight Lady Buc points in a 3:23 span late in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats by eight in that span.
All told, Forman scored 22 points in the second half on 8-10 shooting and 6-7 from three-point range. Her only missed three was three seconds into the half and she did not miss a shot after the 13:42 mark.
In addition to Forman's career night, ETSU got 11 points from junior guard Erin Thurman and junior forward Megan Jackson. Freshman guard Raquel Ellis tallied a game-high eight assists and freshman Lauren Trantham pulled down a game-high eight boards.
The Lady Bucs return to the hardwood when they face Bradley, Dec. 15 in the first round of the Pioneer Classic in Denver, Colo.
