Davidson Puts Damper on ETSU Senior Day With 2-1 Win Over the Bucs

Johnson City, Tenn.-- The East Tennessee State women's soccer team battled Davidson close but could not capitalize on some great opportunites and fell to the visiting Wildcats on Senior Day, 2-1.
A closely played first half ended with Davidson's Sarah Huber blasting a shot past Buccaneer goalkeeper Heather Sanden with ony 13 seconds before halftime at 44:47, to put the Wildcats up 1-0.
The sencond-half began with ETSU pushing deep inside the Davidson zone. ETSU's Courtney Edde capped a loose ball after a point blank shot by Melissa Wilder was knocked away by Davidson goalkeeper Winnie Corrigan. Edde's header found the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1 with 48:38 elapsed.
Davidson struck back after Heather Maloney split the Buccaneer defense, raced down the near sideline and took a sliding shot that sailed over two Buccaneer defenders and past Sanden to give Davidson a 2-1 lead at 63:39. Edde had another chance with 3 seconds remaining to tie, but her header was stopped by Corrigan to preserve the Davidson win.
With the loss, the Bucs fall to 6-11 overall, 0-9 in the Southern Conference. Davidson improves to 13-5-1 overall 6-2 in the Southern Conference.
ETSU will conclude its 2000 campaign on the road against Middle Tennessee State, October 29 at 2 p.m.
