Cross Country Competes in SoCon Championships

Johnson City, Tenn.-- The East Tennessee State University Cross Country teams brought home a eighth place finish in the women's race and a ninth place finish in the men's race at the Southern Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Appalachian State University.

In the women's race, Furman placed three runners in the top-15 to capture the title. Appalachian State's Mary Jayne Harrelson ran the State Farm Field course in 17:17, led from start to finish to claim her fourth championship in as many years. ETSU's best finish was ninth by senior Emily Campbell.

ETSU junior Greg Sprowl led the men's Buccaneer runners, as he finished in seventh place. Appalachian State claimed five of the top-12 spots to claim the team title. Chattanooga's Ryan Kendall made it through the 8K trail in 25:13 to become the fourth UTC runner in five years to win the individual crown.
