Johnson City, Tenn. -- Texas Christian set a tournament team scoring record and TCU senior Steve Shuert set a tournament individual scoring record as the Horned Frogs won their second consecutive Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate from The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Johnson City, Tenn. TCU shot a final round 287 (-1) to finish at 23-under par (274-280-287=841) and win the tournament by ten strokes over Southern California. The Trojans shot a final round 293 (+5) to finish at 13-under par. The Horned Frogs broke the tournament scoring record, previously held by Clemson (844 in 1998) by three strokes. The University of Oklahoma finished in third at seven under par (281-286-290=857) after shooting a final-round 290. Shuert was the only player to shoot in the 60's in all three rounds of the tournament (69-67-68=204). He finished at 12-under par and broke personal records for his best finish and shattered his personal record for best 54-hole score, which stood at 213. The previous tournament record for best individual score was 207 by Jonathan Byrd of Clemson in 1998. Fellow Horned Frog Adam Rubinson started the final round in the lead, but shot a 73 to finish in second at 10-under par (64-69-73=206). Rubinson turned in his second-straight impressive performance at The Ridges, as he finished second in the 2000 Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate. TCU junior Andy Doeden was the third Horned Frog to finish in the top-10 as he completed the tournament in a tie for eighth place at 4-under par (69-71-72=212). It was also Doeden's second top-10 at The Ridges as he finished in eighth in the 1999 tournament. Martin Flores of Oklahoma and Bill Haas of Wake Forest finished in a tie for third at 9-under par. The host East Tennessee State Buccaneers finished in seventh place after shooting a final-round 293. Freshman Cennydd Mills turned in an impressive showing in his first collegiate tournament, shooting a three-round 214 (68-72-74) good enough for a tie for 11th place. Junior James Johnson finished one stroke behind Mills in a tie for 13th at 1-under par (71-73-71=215).
