Men's Tennis Shut Out By #32 Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, N. C. (February 24, 2002) - East Tennessee State's men's tennis (2-2) was shut out by Wake Forest (6-1) 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons won two out of the three doubles match and swept the singles competition. ETSU's Marcos Pavlovich (Otamendi, Argentina) and Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) lost the No. 1 doubles match to 27th ranked David Loewenthal and Trent Brendon, 8-6. Pablo Sahagun (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and Alejandro Salazar (Arequipa, Peru) secured the only win for the Bucs today by defeating Derrick Spice and Mike Murray, 8-6. In the No. 3 spot, Wake Forest took the doubles point when Justin Kaufmann and David Bere downed Moises Serrano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) and Federico Ochoa (Manizales, Colombia), 9-7. In singles competition, Pavlovich was defeated in straight sets by Loewenthal by scores of 7-5, 6-4. Wake Forest's Bere took care of Shagun in the No. 2 position, 6-3, 6-2. Spice struggled a bit against Salazar but endedup winning in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Murray pulled out the win against Iglesias, 6-3, 3-6, and 7-6(6). Francisco Diaz (Weston, Fla.) lost to Brendon, 6-1, 6-3. To conclude the sweep, Kaufmann defeated Ochoa, 7-5, 7-6(2). The Bucs head to the Old Dominion Invitational March 2-3.
