Tuesday, November 27, 2001

Johnson City, Tenn. (Nov. 27, 2001) - East Tennessee State's baseball team has added another recruit to its impressive collection of signees in the fall signing period, inking junior college player Andy Howdeshell (Maryville, Tenn.) to a national letter of intent to attend ETSU and play baseball for the Bucs next season head coach Tony Skole announced today. Howdeshell, an infielder, currently plays at Volunteer State Community College, one of the top JC programs in the country. Last season as a freshman he helped lead Volunteer State to the TJCCAA Championship after being selected a captain, scoring 40 runs during the season. Howdeshell played his high school ball at Heritage High School in Maryville where he was a two-time all-state selection. He finished his high school career with a .442 batting average and stole 86 bases. "We are very excited and fortunate to add Andy to our 2001 fall recruiting class," said Skole. "He is considered one of the top JC players in the state and in the Southeast. Andy is a hard-nosed and aggressive player who can really run. His style of play will fit nicely into our system. "We are pleased to receive a player from Jeff Smith's successful program at Volunteer State. Year in and year out they are considered one of the top JC programs in the country. Andy will have an excellent opportunity to make an immediate contribution to the success of our program."
