ETSU Runners Compete At Florida Relays

Gainesville, Fla. (Mar. 29, 2002) - East Tennessee State's track team came up with another strong set of performances today at the 59th edition of the Florida Relays. Freshman Brad Yewer (Newbury Park, England) took sixth place in the 1,500 meters, lowering his best time this season to 3:54.79, the third fastest mark in the Southern Conference so far this season. His teammate, freshman James Grufferty (Glanmire, Ireland) was 20th overall in a field of 48 with a time of 4:00.68. On the women's side, senior Lauren Campbell (Powell, Tenn.) ran her first 1,500-meter race of the outdoor season and finished sixth in her heat in 4:53.60, placing her among the top times in the SoCon so far this season. Senior Jennifer Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.) and sophomore Kim Simmons (Knoxville, Tenn.) both won their respective heats in the 400 meters, with Howard turning in a season-best time of 56.34, while Simmons also bettered her season-best with a 57.77. Their times place them among the SoCon best times in the 400-meter event as well.
