Johnson City, Tenn. (Mar. 4, 2002) -- East Tennessee State Lady Buc freshman guard Ashley Reed (Barrackville, W.Va.) was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, named at the Mountain Dew Southern Conference Women's Basketball Championships from Charleston, S.C. Joining Reed on the five-member squad is Joanie White of Appalachian State, Monica Pope of Furman, Amanda Eaton of UNC Greensboro and Ki-Ki Glass of Western Carolina. Reed completed her freshman campaign with the Lady Bucs as the team's second leading scorer, averaging 10.2 points per game. She scored in double-digits 14 times this season, leading the team on six occasions. She was named to the Active Ankle Bearcat Invitational All-Tournament Team on Nov. 24-25 after leading the Lady Bucs to a third-place finish in a tournament that included Belmont, Cincinnati and Troy State. She averaged 18 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in ETSU's games that weekend, a loss to Belmont and a victory over Troy State. Reed was one of the most feared three-point shooters in the Southern Conference this past season, nailing 60 three-pointers. That number ranks fourth in ETSU history for treys made in a season.
