East Tennessee State Finishes 12th At Carpet Capitol Collegiate
Sunday, September 29, 2002 Dalton, Ga. (Sept. 29, 2002) - East Tennessee State's men's golf team closed out its second tournament of the season today, shooting a final round 294 (+6) to finish 12th in a field of 18 teams at the Carpet Capital Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech. The Buccaneers posted a three-round total of 877, finishing three strokes behind Wake Forest. Clemson took home team honors with a three-day score of 850. Sophomore Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) led ETSU on the final day, shooting a 71 for a three-day total of 216 (72-73-71; E). His total was good for a tie for 23rd individually, the top finish for a Buccaneer. Senior James Johnson (Barbados) also played well on the final day, posting an even par round of 72 for a total of 222 (73-77-72; +6), finishing tied for 48th. Playing in his first tournament as a Buccaneer, sophomore Chase Baldwin (Brandon, Fla.) wound up second overall on the squad with a tournament total of 219 (71-75-73; +3), good for a tie for 33rd. Sophomore Marcos Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica), who was fourth after the first day, finished with a total of 220 (68-74-78; +4), tying him for 36th. Sophomore Hamilton Wheeler (Bowling Green, Ky.) was rounded out the ETSU team for the weekend, posting a 233 (77-78-78; +17).
