Iglesias/Salazar Advance To Quarterfinals

Thursday, October 24, 2002

Chapel Hill, N.C. (October 24, 2002) - The doubles team of Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Alejandro Salazar (Arequipa, Peru) advanced to the quarterfinals to highlight East Tennessee State's participation Thursday in the ITA Region II Tennis Championships held in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Iglesias and Salazar picked up wins over seventh-seeded Luiz Rino and Ricardo Shinozaki of Liberty (8-5) and Santiago Falla and Zalan Kiss of Charleston Southern (8-6) to reach the quarterfinals. The duo's match is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m., where they will take on the winner of Wake Forest versus Florida State.

"Diego and Alejandro played with a lot of fire, and their second match was their best match of the fall," said ETSU head coach Dave Mullins. "Hopefully we can build on this and have a good rest of the tournament."

Also, Salazar will open Friday's play with a main draw singles match. Salazar is scheduled to face top-seeded Roger Anderson of Georgia Tech at 8:00 a.m. Anderson won the singles tournament last year and advanced to the ITA National Intercollegiate Championships in Farmers Branch, Texas.
