Friday, January 10, 2003

Johnson City, Tenn. (Jan. 10, 2003) - East Tennessee State's volleyball team continued its strong tradition of excellence in the classroom as a number of its student-athletes collected academic accolades for the fall semester.

First-year players, freshman Katie Ralph (Port Orchard, Wash.) and sophomore Marty Irvin (Knoxville, Tenn.), earned dean's list honors, while freshmen Meghan Connolly (Solon, Ohio) and Renee Vesey (Paw Paw, Mich.) and juniors Katie Steidle (Waynesboro, Va.) and Rachel Shifflett (Axton, Va.) were named to the honor roll.

"I'm very proud of these girls and the work they have put into being successful in the classroom," said head coach Deane Webb. "Having half of our team recognized in this manner indicates the focus and priority these players have placed on their academics, and also speaks highly for Shannon Mincey, our assistant coach who works diligently with them on their academic success and progress."
