Thursday, December 12, 2002
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (December 12, 2002) - East Tennessee State University continues to build towards the future as two projects are well underway.
The Bill G. Humphreys Champ Life Skills Center will assist student-athletes with all their academic needs. The center, which is located on the second floor of the Memorial Center, will house state-of-the-art multimedia technology, private meeting rooms, computer stations, and digital projectors. The center will be open for all student-athletes to use for tutoring and study hall and will be completed within 60-90 days.
"This is an exciting project that will give our student-athletes a state-of-the-art academic center that will allow them to continue to be successful in the classroom," said Athletics Director Todd Stansbury.
Construction is also underway for a new men and women's golf practice facility. The facility is designed by Tom Fazio, one of the most renowned golf architects in the world, and will include a long shot tee, six target greens, a short game practice area, putting green, two indoor heated hitting bays, coaches offices, a players lounge, meeting room and hall of fame.
"This will be a wonderful facility and we are privileged to have Tom Fazio designing it," said ETSU men's head golf coach Fred Warren.
The expected completion date for the facility is late spring or early summer.
"The practice facility is going to be one of the best in the country that will allow our men and women's programs to continue to compete on the national level," Stansbury said.
